Mayor Young, 2024
About the artwork: Mayor Young is part of an ongoing series titled Identity. The artwork portrays Coleman A. Young, who served as the first black mayor of Detroit. During his 20-year tenure, he was considered a dynamic and influential figure by many city residents, championing the cause of Detroit. However, he was also seen as a polarizing figure and, by some, a representative of Detroit's decline. Through this collage, I aim to honor and recognize Young's profound significance in the lives of Black Detroiters and his lasting legacy in the city's history.
