About the artwork: Dorothy Dandridge Eyes is part of a series of works titled Icon. The body of work was conceived as a way to explore spiritual connections. It features iconographic motifs inspired by childhood memories of attending Catholic school and being captivated by biblical imagery. The aim of the series is to illustrate the light that radiates from those who possess a significant purpose in life. It celebrates the everyday individual, our personal and public heroes, and those we have tragically lost to the world’s afflictions. Ultimately, this series conveys that regardless of where we find ourselves in life, each of us has a purpose to fulfill. We are called to be a light not only for ourselves but also for those around us.
